Tawheed, meaning the Oneness of Allah, is the cornerstone of Islamic faith. It is the belief that Allah is One, unique, and has no partners. This fundamental concept shapes every aspect of a Muslim's life.
There are three main categories of Tawheed:
- Tawheed ar-Rububiyah: The Oneness of Allah's Lordship - recognizing that Allah alone is the Creator, Sustainer, and Controller of all things.
- Tawheed al-Uluhiyah: The Oneness of Worship - understanding that all acts of worship must be directed solely to Allah.
- Tawheed al-Asma wa-Sifat: The Oneness of Allah's Names and Attributes - believing in Allah's names and attributes as mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah without distortion or comparison to creation.
Understanding Tawheed correctly protects Muslims from shirk (associating partners with Allah) and strengthens their faith. It is essential for every Muslim to learn and implement this fundamental belief in their daily lives.
